January 2008 forecast
Jupiter is active on the eclipse points early in January 2008. This is often accompanied by persistent ridge formation. After a stormy first week, watch for a ridge formation over the West Coast. Mildness in the western third of the country should be countered by strong cold on the eastern side of the ridge with cold fronts into the Northern High Plains, Great Lakes region and the Middle Atlantic states going into week two. Storms into the upper Midwest and Northeast should develop at the end of the first week.
In the second half of the month a strong shift by Uranus and the node over the western Atlantic should stimulate trough formation on the West Coast bringing storms from Washington to California. A ridge over the southern High Plains should help keep the western trough in place. Mildness in the southern High Plains should be offset by cool and wet conditions along the Gulf Coast and in the areas east of the Mississippi. Look for storms from the Corn Belt east into New England.
